Performance: Speaking — Year 12 — Chinese festivals

This sample has been compiled by the QCAA to help teachers plan and develop assessment instruments for individual school settings. It provides opportunities for students to demonstrate the general objectives associated with Conveying meaning (productive communication). In terms of speaking, these are:

  • knowing and using features of the Chinese language
  • creating spoken language in Chinese and responding in situations relevant to their communication needs.

The assessment instrument requires students to give a speech and engage in conversation on a Chinese festival. It is accompanied by an audio link to a student response which comprises five segments. Segments 1- 4 are used to provide evidence of the match between qualities within the response and specific syllabus descriptors. Segment 5 is the complete response.
