Performance: Speaking — Year 12 — Chinese festivals
This sample has been compiled by the QCAA to help teachers plan and develop assessment instruments for individual school settings. It provides opportunities for students to demonstrate the general objectives associated with Conveying meaning (productive communication). In terms of speaking, these are:
- knowing and using features of the Chinese language
- creating spoken language in Chinese and responding in situations relevant to their communication needs.
The assessment instrument requires students to give a speech and engage in conversation on a Chinese festival. It is accompanied by an audio link to a student response which comprises five segments. Segments 1- 4 are used to provide evidence of the match between qualities within the response and specific syllabus descriptors. Segment 5 is the complete response.
Using the link below, ensure that you read the sample assessment instrument and related information.
The A-standard student performance matches the following descriptors:
- spoken response uses appropriate register to the situation
- conversation is initiated and sustained.
Notes on the response
The student addresses a group of students about their favourite Chinese festival. The phrases used give the audience a very clear indication of the speech that is going to be offered.
