We understand and appreciate that people who use the QCAA's websites are concerned about their privacy and the confidentiality and security of any information that they may provide. The QCAA will protect your privacy.

Our website uses some data that directly or indirectly identifies users. We take great care with practices that affect personal privacy. QCAA officers who manage information on our website are bound by the Information Privacy Act 2009 (available from the website of the Office of the Queensland Parliamentary Counsel). In addition, the QCAA’s Information Management Policy: School and student data governs the release of data held by the QCAA.

Note: Under the Information Privacy Act 2009 the Information Privacy Standard IS42I is no longer applicable.


Internet cookies are small strings of text placed on your hard drive during the exchange of data that happens when your browser (such as Internet Explorer or Firefox) opens a website. Cookies allow a website to store information on your machine and retrieve it later. They remember preferences you enter and tailor a site to suit your needs. Cookies have no way of disclosing your name or any personal information.

The QCAA uses cookies for our web server to manage your sessions.

  • The cookies store the session ID. This storage lasts in your browser's memory while the browser is active. The session information is deleted within 24 hours of your last site access.
  • When you log in with your user ID and password, the system uses the cookie to determine if you have already supplied your ID and password.

Most browsers can be set to accept or reject cookies. You can adjust your browser to reject cookies or to notify you when they are being used.

But remember: rejecting cookies may limit the functionality of the QCAA website.

Site use

When your browser opens a page on the QCAA website, our web server makes a record of your visit and logs the following information, some of which is used for statistical purposes:

  • the client IP address (an internet protocol address is a string of numbers that identifies your computer on the internet)
  • the date and time you accessed the site
  • the pages you accessed and the documents you downloaded
  • the file size of the pages you downloaded
  • the status of your visit
  • the previous site you visited
  • the type of browser used.

We will not attempt to identify users or their browsing activities except, in the unlikely event of an investigation, where a law enforcement agency may exercise a warrant to inspect activity logs.


At times we may ask you to complete questionnaires that appear on the site. These may ask for personal information. We will tell you why we are collecting the information and how we will use it.

Email and feedback information

As this is a Queensland Government website, we will treat emails sent to this site as public records and will retain them as required by the Public records Act 2002 (available from the website of the Office of the Queensland Parliamentary Counsel) and other relevant regulations.

We will not add your name and address to a mailing list, nor will we disclose these details to third parties without your consent, unless required by law. Our website staff and our internet service provider may monitor emails for system troubleshooting and maintenance.

Although every effort will be made, the QCAA cannot guarantee to reply to emails. Some emails received by website staff may be forwarded to other officers for appropriate action.
