Schools: Using kindergarten transition statements

Kindergarten transition statements provide a snapshot of each child’s knowledge, skills and dispositions for learning across the 5 learning and development areas in the Queensland kindergarten learning guide (QKLG).

Kindergarten services create and share transition statements in the Kindergarten Transition Statement (KTS) application via the QCAA Portal in November each year.

Transition statements can help schools:

  • understand each child’s learning and development capabilities and strengths
  • support continuity of learning from kindergarten to Prep
  • make informed decisions about teaching, learning and environments that build on children’s prior learning.

How to access a child’s transition statement

Schools can access a child’s transition statement via the Kindergarten Transition Statement (KTS) app in the QCAA Portal.

The process for schools to access the KTS app via the QCAA Portal is outlined below:Process for schools to access the KTS app via the QCAA Portal

To access the KTS application, schools must nominate at least 2 QCAA Portal organisation administrators. Administrators are responsible for managing access to Portal applications, including the KTS application.

This includes:

  • reviewing user accounts
  • assigning and updating roles
  • removing access when required.

Downloading and using transition statements

Downloading and using transition statements

Staff assigned the Kindergarten viewer role can log in to the QCAA Portal and download transition statements from the KTS app.

Transition statements can be downloaded in bulk from the assigned statements list. Select the cohort year that matches the year the child attended kindergarten.

If a transition statement does not appear in the assigned list, staff can use the manual search function.

Schools can use the information in a transition statement to plan and prepare for children starting Prep.

Further information and resources on planning for positive transition and continuity of learning are available at Supporting children starting Prep.
