Queensland kindergarten learning guideline

The& Queensland kindergarten learning guideline (QKLG) guides what children learn in kindergarten. It helps kindergarten teachers deliver quality, consistent programs across Queensland.

The QKLG recognises that parents and carers are children's first educators and values the vital role parents, carers and family members play in children's lives and their ongoing learning.

The guideline helps kindergarten teachers to:

• interact with children
• plan, monitor and assess learning
• share information with parents and carers about their child’s learning.

It also promotes continuity of learning and supports children in their transition to Prep.

Queensland kindergarten program providers must use the QKLG ;or another QCAA-accredited kindergarten program to receive government funding.

How children are assessed in kindergarten

Transition statements

A transition statement is a document that shows what your child has learned during kindergarten. It includes information about each of the learning and development areas.

Kindergarten teachers create the transition statement to help support your child's transition into Prep.

Kindergarten services use the Kindergarten Transition Statement (KTS) application or Microsoft Word template to create transition statements. With your consent, they will share your child’s transition statement with their school.
