To support the introduction of external assessment, QCAA is conducting trials in a range of subjects.
This will give schools and students the opportunity to become familiar with the use of subject-based external assessments, and enable the QCAA to evaluate the effectiveness of its processes.
The trial assessments are:
- developed in close consultation with subject experts drawn from schools, subject associations and universities
- aligned to the existing syllabus and designed as an alternative to a task already being undertaken at participating schools
- administered under secure conditions, and graded externally.

The schools participating in the trial were selected following an expression of interest process in late 2016.
Results and reporting
Schools have been provided with details of individual student achievement. Cohort analysis was also provided.
As the trial involves Year 11 formative assessments, there will be no impact on a student’s Year 12 exit result in the subject.
