Detailed description of schools’ AARA application/notification process for summative assessment in Units 3 and 4

The diagram sets out the AARA process for Units 3 and 4.

In consultation with students and/or parents/carers, schools undertake the following sequential steps:

  1. Review student eligibility for AARA.
  2. Gather information and supporting documentation.
  3. Consider upcoming summative internal and external assessment.
  4. Identify AARA required.
  5. Report or apply for AARA (see table ‘Adjustments requiring ACAA approval’, above). For principal-reported AARA: schools confirm arrangements with relevant stakeholders, then report to the QCAA on AARA enacted, and then retain supporting documentation. For QCAA-approved AARA: schools submit an application for QCAA-approved AARA (section 6.4.2), after which the QCAA considers applications. The QCAA then communicates decisions to the school, and then schools confirm arrangements with relevant stakeholders.
  6. Administer assessment and enact AARA.
  7. Monitor AARA effectiveness
