Syllabus implementation

The QCAA provides support to schools and approved providers of education and care services in implementing a Queensland syllabus.

This is performed primarily by the QCAA by giving information about the content and purpose of the syllabus to school authorities and approved providers. The QCAA performs this function by providing resources or professional development services.

For more information about syllabus implementation, see Section 4.4.1 of the QCE and QCIA policy and procedures handbook.

For advice around implementing a senior syllabus, contact the relevant Principal Education Officer.

Associated materials

Syllabus implementation is assisted with associated material. Associated material accompanies and complements the syllabus by providing essential information relevant to the syllabus such as:

  • Prescribed text lists
  • Formula and data booklets
  • Calculator lists.

Cognitive verb framework

Cognitive verbs, used in QCAA’s syllabuses for senior subjects, are words that represent the mental operations students are expected to learn, perform and demonstrate.

The Cognitive verb framework has been provided below for use with all syllabuses from 2024 onwards.

A factsheet for the Cognitive verb framework has been provided to assist in understanding and applying cognitive verbs in syllabuses.

Supporting materials

Subject-specific resources developed to support schools and education providers to implement syllabuses can be accessed in the Syllabus application in the QCAA Portal.

Some of these subject-specific resources are also available on each individual subject page and the Senior syllabus resource search page.
