What are instrument-specific marking guides?
Instrument-specific marking guides (ISMGs) are tools teachers use to assess students’ work in General subjects. Each internal assessment has its own ISMG.
How ISMGs work
Instrument-specific marking guides align with the assessment objectives in the syllabus. They describe the qualities of student work for each internal assessment.
Each ISMG shows how much an assessment contributes to a student’s overall subject result. For example:
- an assessment worth 10% is marked out of 10
- an assessment worth 25% is marked out of 25.
How final subject results are calculated
A student’s final subject result comes from combining their:
- marks from each of the internal assessments
- mark on the external assessment.
The maximum result for each subject is 100.
