The things that seem the scariest to start now will end up being the experiences that have made you grow the most. So just get started, and make all the improvements you need along the way!

Drama. It was such a safe and fun environment where I could be myself, challenge myself and constantly push myself to be my best.
Tips and advice for current Year 12 students
Keep doing the things you love while studying as it’s important to have other interests. It’s beneficial to your mental health. Don’t surround yourself with people who don’t support you and lift you up. Find the people that make you happy and that you can be yourself around.

Do what you love, otherwise you’re not going to have a good time. And have fun, because school goes a lot quicker than you think it will.

To explore as many avenues of architecture as possible and work for a firm that focuses on high-density residential projects. I would also love to travel the world so an international firm would be the dream.

Study at the library but go out for dinner with your friends afterwards. Break up your work by taking your laptop to a park.

Specialist Maths. It applies complex problem solving and reasoning, which I enjoy. It also requires perseverance and has taught me to look at problems from different perspectives.

Dream big and aim high. The best way to predict the future is to do everything you can to create it. Focus on consistent effort and becoming the best version of yourself, rather than comparing yourself to others.

Specialist Mathematics. I enjoyed exploring a variety of new and interesting concepts. Using them to solve unfamiliar problems was very satisfying.

Make a schedule and stick to it. Break big tasks into smaller parts. Schedule time for other activities you enjoy — it really helps you feel motivated and in control.

I’m inspired by my Economics teacher, Mrs Berndt. She was so helpful and really enthusiastic about Economics beyond the classroom, encouraging me to apply analytical skills outside of assessments.

Economics. You have to be able to adjust your assumptions and reasoning on the fly — having had the opportunity to practice realistic analytical thinking prepares me well for a medical career.

Academically, it's really important that you have a plan, and be honest to yourself about where you are, where you should be, and what you need to do to get there. And be kind to yourself — do something to unwind before the next assessment.

Maintain balance, and when school becomes challenging and overwhelming, remind yourself why you started and keep your end goals in mind.

Focus during class is the most important key to success. No amount of study at home can match the value of understanding the content when it’s taught, and being able to clarify any queries immediately with the teacher.

Specialist Mathematics. It was by far the most motivating and interesting subject because it had the most unique content and challenged me the most. I had great teachers for all my classes too.
Tips and advice for current Year 12 students
Don't burn out before externals. Keep consistent but balanced study habits, and make time to do other stuff you want to. Use your teachers and learn the marking guides to work smart, and you won't need to study 24/7.

Specialist Mathematics. Despite how abstract it could get, the variety of different, elegant approaches and the challenges of problem-solving made it enjoyable.

The moments outside of studying during extracurricular or social activities were just as valuable as studying. A healthy balance is crucial, as it set me up for efficient study.

I highly recommend building your skills and qualities through extracurriculars — the discipline learnt from music, resilience at work, and collaboration in sports will always be worth the time they take.

Sleep! Sleep! Sleep! Your brain needs it to work at its best. Year 12 can get busy quickly, so taking care of yourself and getting the rest you need is something to keep in mind throughout the year.

Take it easy. Enjoy all the little moments of your final year and don't stress yourself over things you can't change. Be able to say that you gave everything a shot and always ask your family, friends or teachers for help if needed.

Plan ahead and stay organised by breaking down assignments and external exam preparation into small, manageable chunks. Consistently chipping away over time reduces stress and leads to a much stronger understanding and outcome.

I liked Mathematical Methods a lot because of the problem-solving process, and Economics allowed me to apply logical reasoning and theoretical thinking to analyse real-world decisions, human behaviour, and outcomes.

Don’t be limited by the stereotypes of what a ‘good’ student should look like — success is personal, and it comes from consistent effort, persistence, and finding approaches that work for you.

Tips and advice for current Year 12 students
Ask as many questions as possible, even if it goes beyond what you’re currently learning. Delving into a topic at a deeper level than what is expected will provide a greater breadth of knowledge and broaden your understanding.

What I do in the long run is less determined by what I study, and rather the connections I make, and work I put in outside of school.

Solving hard problems, meeting new faces, and hopefully, creating good solutions.

In Mathematical Methods, the content was chill, and my teacher had a well-organised OneNote. Physics was also cool, as asking questions often turned into debating theories with my teacher, which was brain-breaking but fun.

Ask more questions! Question yourself if you have any deeper questions. Keep asking until you understand the ‘why’ and the rest follows.

Specialist Mathematics. The course content was the right balance between challenging and fun. Finding solutions to difficult and unorthodox problems was always equally rewarding.

Never underestimate the power of your intuition. For simpler questions, it can discount precious minutes off your thinking. For more challenging questions, it can be the spark that ignites uncertainty into progress.
