Voices in transitions: Children

'It is important that the voices of children are sought and used to validate and improve school transition practices.' (Margetts 2008, p. 1)

The videos below show two children who attended kindergarten and transitioned to school in Brisbane in different settings. The children share their thoughts at the end of kindergarten and reflect on their first six months in Prep.

These videos could be shown to children or parents/carers as part of the transition process.

In class, teachers could show the videos and use the following questions to connect and reflect with their new learners:

  • What did you love about learning in kindergarten or with your family?
  • What would you like to know about learning in Prep?
