The Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) consults publicly when developing new syllabuses.
Consultation ensures new subjects are well-defined and meet the needs of Queensland students and schools.
Current consultation opportunities are listed below.
For information about how syllabuses are developed and managed, see Syllabus development and management.
Current consultations
The Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) is developing three new syllabuses for senior subjects.
We are now seeking public feedback on the draft documents.
We would specifically like to hear from community leaders, school leaders, teachers and students, academics or professionals interested in either the Critical Thinking, Cultural Learning or Science Extension syllabuses.
Your feedback will help ensure these subjects meet the needs of students, schools and the wider community.
To participate in the public consultation, download the draft the documents and complete the online survey for the draft syllabus. To learn more about the consultation process, see the following factsheet.
Focus group registration will open soon.
This syllabus develops the knowledge and skills to assess the quality of information, evidence and reasoning, helping students understand and navigate the large amount of information in today’s society.
Draft documents
This syllabus aims at providing both a holistic education in the perspectives and ways of knowing, being and doing, and about the knowledges, cultures, lived experiences and connections of Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples in diverse contexts.
Draft documents
This syllabus prepares students for future study and careers in scientific research, with a focus on research skills, ethics and scientific processes.

About syllabus consultation
When developing these syllabuses, the QCAA followed a structured public consultation process.
Consultation included:
Stage 1 — Early sector consultation
Advice from Heads of Department and key stakeholders.
Stage 2 — Target consultation
Specialist and system-level feedback.
Stage 3 — Online survey
Online surveys seeking feedback on draft documents.
Stage 4 — Focus groups
Moderated discussions, online or face-to-face.
This staged approach supports transparency, inclusion and high standards.
Next steps after public consultation
After the public consultation period:
- the Syllabus Development Committee reviews all feedback
- draft documents are refined in response
- a syllabus refinement brief is published summarising responses and changes
- the final syllabuses are approved and published for implementation.
Your feedback helps ensure senior syllabuses are clear, consistent and support high-quality learning for Queensland students.
