The QCAA is committed to equity in education, providing services and materials that challenge inequities and contribute to Queensland students receiving a socially just education.
Teachers should approach students’ diverse learning needs proactively to design equitable learning and assessment programs.
These equity principles underpin all functions of the QCAA .
Principles
All young people in Queensland are entitled to an education that meets their needs, and prepares them for active participation in the creation of a socially just, equitable and democratic global society. This principle is aligned with the range of United Nations (UN) Conventions that Australia has ratified and the Melbourne Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians December 2008.
The QCAA is committed to Queensland students accessing a fair and just, inclusive education which provides:
- socially and culturally responsive and inclusive teaching, learning and assessment
- access and participation for all learners, on the same basis as their peers
- adjustments, where required, to enhance engagement and equitable outcomes for all students
- acknowledgment of the diverse bodies of knowledge, backgrounds and families of all students.
Application
Equity is embedded in all functions of the QCAA by:
- distribution to, and discussion of equity principles with, all new staff members as part of induction processes
- discussion about, and incorporation of, equity principles when QCAA staff members are developing and reviewing products and services
- inclusion of equity principles in all strategic planning processes of the QCAA , including the QCAA Strategic Plan and annual performance report to the QCAA Board
- regular review and revision of the equity principles as required.
