Kindergarten transition statements

Transition statements provide a snapshot of each child’s knowledge, skills and dispositions for learning across the five learning and development areas in the QKLG. Kindergarten teachers write the statements from a strengths-based perspective towards the end of the kindergarten year.

Transition statements help families to:

  • understand their child’s learning progress
  • share information with their child’s school to support continuity of learning.

Teachers may provide copies of the Kindergarten transition statement information for parents and carers (PDF, 251.4 KB) at key points in the kindergarten year, including at the:

  • beginning of the year at information sessions
  • end of the year.

Transition statements help Prep teachers to:

  • understand each child’s learning progress
  • support each child’s successful transition to school.

Kindergartens retain the transition statement and all related consent forms for three years after the child exits the service, as stipulated by the national regulations.
