External assessment marker recruitment 2025 — principal communications kit

Background

Each year the QCAA employs and trains practising Queensland teachers and other eligible applicants to mark external assessment for General, General (Extension) and General (SEE) syllabuses.

2025 marking dates

The 2025 marking operation runs from early October to late November.

Benefits for schools and teachers

Having QCAA markers on staff:

  • gives schools increased knowledge of QCE system processes
  • provides schools with a shared understanding of assessment design and ISMGs/ marking guides
  • increases schools’ capacity for building internal quality assurance processes and teams
  • supports schools to improve assessment judgments and report accurate provisional results to the QCAA
  • helps schools build a community of practice

Being a marker, chief marker or lead marker:

  • Helps teachers improve their knowledge of the QCE system processes
  • Provides professional and career development opportunities, allowing them to earn CPD credits for Queensland College of Teachers registration renewal
  • Gives teachers the opportunity to earn extra income while marking from home (all chiefs and some leads will work at the QCAA offices in Brisbane)
