Music General Senior Syllabus 2019: Syllabus amendment notice

Amendments have been made to the Music General Senior Syllabus 2019.

Syllabus objectives

Syllabus objective 2 has been amended. The words ‘the use of’ have been added to clarify the objective meaning.

Unit 1

The subject matter for Area of study: Designs has been amended for clarity.

Unit 2

The subject matter for Area of study: Identities has been amended for clarity.

Unit 3

The subject matter for Area of study: Innovations has been amended for clarity.

The suggested repertoire has been updated.

Unit 4

The subject matter for Area of study: Narratives has been amended.

Summative internal assessment 1 (IA1): Performance

Assessment objective 2 has been amended for clarity.

The assessment specifications, including the conditions, have been amended as follows:

  • increased word limit
  • submission information provided for greater clarity.

The instrument-specific marking guide has been amended to better describe the evidence required in the Communicating meaning criterion.

Summative internal assessment 2 (IA2): Composition

The conditions of the assessment have been amended to include submission information.

The instrument-specific marking guide has been amended to better describe the evidence required in the Communicating meaning criterion.

Summative internal assessment 3 (IA3): Integrated project

Assessment objective 2 has been amended for clarity.

The assessment specifications, including the conditions, have been amended as follows:

  • increased word limit
  • submission information provided for greater clarity.

The instrument-specific marking guide mark range has been amended for comparability in the musicology and composition criteria:

  • Applying techniques and processes
  • Communicating meaning.

The instrument-specific marking guide has been amended to better describe evidence in the musicology and performance criterion: Communicating meaning.

Summative external assessment (EA): Examination — extended response

Assessment objectives 2, 4 and 8 have been amended for clarity.

Reporting standards

The A standard has been amended to align with the changes made to the instrument-specific marking guides.
