The Queensland Government has a vision for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders to have their cultures affirmed, heritage sustained and the same prospects for health, prosperity and quality of life as other Queenslanders. The Government is committed to achieving this vision by ensuring all levels of government, community, business and non-government sectors work together to meet community needs.

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives statement was developed by the Queensland Studies Authority (QSA). On 1 July 2014, QSA became the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA).

The QCAA strongly supports the Government's vision. Our commitment is detailed in our Affirmation. Our priority areas for action are explained in:

Embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives

The QCAA is committed to establishing and implementing a strategy for embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into the QCAA organisational environment, products and services including:

  • curriculum development (syllabuses, advice, guidelines and resources)
  • assessment
  • recognition and accreditation
  • professional development (internal and external)
  • human resources policy and communications.

Indigenous languages policy

This statement acknowledges the importance of understanding, maintaining and promoting the diversity of Australian Indigenous languages spoken in Queensland and across Australia. The policy supports curriculum initiatives in assisting schools and communities to work in partnership to recognise and value local Indigenous languages.
