Specialist Mathematics General Senior Syllabus 2019: Syllabus amendment notice

Amendments have been made to the Specialist Mathematics General Senior Syllabus 2019.

Assumed knowledge, prior learning or experience

Amendments have been made for clarity.

Syllabus objectives

In Syllabus objective 5, ‘and prove propositions’ has been removed for consistency with Essential Mathematics, General Mathematics and Mathematical Methods. The explanatory paragraph has been amended to include ‘proving propositions’, which is unique to Specialist Mathematics.

Unit and assessment objectives have been updated to reflect the changes to Syllabus objective 5.

The explanatory paragraph for Syllabus objective 6 has been amended for clarity.

Pedagogical and conceptual frameworks

Amendments have been made to provide further guidance.

Subject matter

Subject matter has been amended for each unit for clarity and consistency.

Unit 1

The unit description and assessment guidance has been amended for clarity.

Summative internal assessment 1 (IA1): Problem-solving and modelling task

The assessment description and conditions have been amended and a 2000-word limit has been added. The instrument-specific marking guide has been amended for clarity and consistency.

Summative internal assessment 2 (IA2): Examination

The assessment description and ‘Degree of difficulty’ definitions for complex unfamiliar, complex familiar and simple familiar have been amended for clarity. The instrument-specific marking guide has been amended to reflect the changes to Assessment objective 5.

Summative internal assessment 3 (IA3): Examination

The assessment description and ‘Degree of difficulty’ definitions for complex unfamiliar, complex familiar and simple familiar have been amended for clarity. The instrument-specific marking guide has been amended to reflect the changes to Assessment objective 5.

Summative external assessment (EA): Examination

The ’Degree of difficulty’ definitions for complex unfamiliar, complex familiar and simple familiar have been amended for clarity.

Glossary

Glossary explanations have been amended for clarity and consistency.
