General Mathematics General Senior Syllabus 2019: Syllabus amendment notice

Amendments have been made to the General Mathematics General Senior Syllabus 2019.

Syllabus objectives

The explanatory paragraph for Syllabus objective 6 has been amended for clarity.

Pedagogical and conceptual frameworks

Amendments have been made to provide further guidance.

Subject matter

Subject matter has been amended for each unit for clarity and consistency.

Unit 1

The unit description and assessment guidance has been amended for clarity.

Summative internal assessment 1 (IA1): Problem-solving and modelling task

The assessment description and conditions have been amended and a 2000–word limit has been added. The instrument-specific marking guide has been amended for clarity and consistency.

Summative internal assessment 2 (IA2): Examination

The assessment description and ’Degree of difficulty’ definitions for complex unfamiliar, complex familiar and simple familiar have been amended for clarity.

Summative internal assessment 3 (IA3): Examination

The assessment description and ‘Degree of difficulty’ definitions for complex unfamiliar, complex familiar and simple familiar have been amended for clarity.

Summative external assessment (EA): Examination

The ’Degree of difficulty’ definitions for complex unfamiliar, complex familiar and simple familiar have been amended for clarity.

The conditions have been amended to state:

  • Paper 1 (30%): 90 minutes plus 5 minutes perusal
    • multiple choice and short response, simple familiar questions, QCAA-approved scientific calculator only
  • Paper 2 (20%): 90 minutes plus 5 minutes perusal
    • short response, complex familiar and complex unfamiliar questions, QCAA-approved scientific calculator only.

Glossary

Glossary explanations have been amended for clarity and consistency.
