Music Extension General Senior Syllabus 2020: Syllabus amendment notice

Amendments have been made to the Music Extension General Senior Syllabus 2020.

Teaching and learning

The syllabus objective tables have been updated for the Composition and Performance specialisations to reflect changes to assessment requirements.

Unit 3

Subject matter has been amended to align with the changes in unit objectives.

The unit objective tables have been updated for the Composition and Performance specialisations to reflect changes to assessment requirements.

The unit objectives for Composition, Musicology and Performance have been amended for clarity.

Unit 4

Subject matter has been amended to align with the changes in unit objectives.

The unit objectives for Composition, Musicology and Performance have been amended for clarity.

Composition specialisation — Summative internal assessment 1 (IA1): Composition 1

Assessment objectives 1, 2, 3 and 4 have been amended to align with unit objective and subject matter changes.

The specifications and conditions of the assessment have been amended for clarity and submission information has been added.

The instrument-specific marking guide has been amended for clarity and to align with assessment objectives and subject matter changes.

Composition specialisation — Summative internal assessment 2 (IA2): Composition 2

Assessment objectives 1, 2, 3 and 4 have been amended to align with unit objective and subject matter changes.

The specifications and conditions of the assessment have been amended for clarity and submission information has been added.

The instrument-specific marking guide has been amended for clarity and to align with assessment objectives and subject matter changes.

Musicology specialisation — Summative internal assessment 2 (IA2): Investigation 2

The instrument-specific marking guide has been amended for clarity in two criteria: Expressing meaning and Investigating music.

Musicology specialisation — Summative internal assessment 3 (IA3): Musicology project

Assessment objectives 8, 9 and 10 have been amended for clarity.

The specifications and conditions of the assessment have been amended for clarity and submission information has been added.

The instrument-specific marking guide has been amended for clarity in all four criteria.

Performance specialisation — Summative internal assessment 1 (IA1): Performance 1

Assessment objectives 1, 2, 3 and 4 have been amended to align with unit objective and subject matter changes.

The specifications and conditions of the assessment have been amended for clarity and submission information has been added.

The instrument-specific marking guide has been amended for clarity and to align with assessment objective changes in three criteria: Interpreting music elements and concepts, Communicating meaning and Evaluating best practice.

Summative external assessment (EA): Examination — extended response

Assessment objective 2 has been amended for clarity.

Glossary

Assimilation has been removed from the glossary.

Reporting standards

The reporting standards have been amended to align with changes to the syllabus, unit and assessment objectives and the updated instrument-specific marking guides.
