Notice 036/18

Amendments have been made to the English General Senior Syllabus 2019.

Unit 2

Summative internal assessment 2 (IA2): Extended response — persuasive spoken response

The specifications have been amended to clarify that students may ‘choose a contentious issue’ or that they may choose a ‘perspective about an issue studied’ as the basis for their persuasive argument.

The instrument-specific marking guide has been amended to include an additional characteristic in the 1-mark performance level descriptor. This change has been made for each of the three criteria.

Summative internal assessment 3 (IA3): Examination — imaginative written response

The instrument-specific marking guide has been amended to include an additional characteristic in the 1-mark performance level descriptor. This change has been made for each of the three criteria.

Summative external assessment (EA): Examination — analytical written response

Subject matter

Unit 4 Topic 2: Critical responses to literary texts has been amended to better define the subject matter in ‘Text in contexts’, ‘Language and textual analysis’ and ‘Responding to and creating texts’.
