Kindergarten teacher
Our visits over to Prep throughout the year and particularly at the end of the year with those transition visits, we’ve really tried to make them meaningful to the child and making those connections with the new people who aren’t from our kindergarten and other friends who are already in their kindergarten that they know. We have one child in particular who met some other friends from another kindy who will be going to his Prep, and they all have the same name, so they made a little friendship straight from the beginning. He has now come back to kindy and he talks about them all the time. So, just from one of those visits, he’s made these new connections, and it’s really helped him to feel comfortable in that environment and he’s more confident when going over to make those visits because he knows a new face and it’s not just those familiar ones that he goes to kindy with, but some other people as well.

Max, the other week when we drew our pictures of us going over to Prep, can you tell me what you drew about your Prep visit to your big school? Do you remember what you drew?
Max

You were sitting on the mat at Prep?
Max
Yeah.
Ali
Who did you meet? It says here that you loved meeting someone at Prep. Do you remember who you met?
Max
Two Maxes.
Ali
Two other Maxes. Amazing, three Maxes at your Prep. What are you excited about starting? So, you’re excited about meeting some new Maxes. What do you think you and the Maxes are going to do together?
Max
I don’t know.
Ali
You don’t know? What's all this stuff? What were you doing here?
Max
The mat.
Ali
That was the mat? Then what else are you going to do? What are you going to learn about do you think?
Max
I don’t even know.
Ali
You don’t even know yet?
Max
No.
Ali
No? It’s very exciting, going off to Prep. It’s great doing those visits.
