ACiQ. This page refers to Australian Curriculum version 9

Measurement and geometry includes four sub-elements:

  • Understanding units of measurement
  • Understanding geometric properties
  • Positioning and locating
  • Measuring time.

Strategies and resources to support teaching across these sub-elements are below.

Mathematical talk routines

Mathematical talk routines are short, purposefully structured activities that:

  • incorporate mathematical proficiencies while exploring mathematical concepts, strategies and facts
  • provide an engaging environment in which students develop conceptual understanding as well as fluency, through meaningful practice
  • can be introduced in the early years and built upon each year across many different mathematical concepts.

The following resource features geometry examples but could be adapted to develop students’ skills across all Numeracy general capability elements in Prep–Year 10.
